10000 Maniacs - Trouble Me Lyrics

Trouble me, disturb me with all your cares and your worries.
Trouble me on the days when you feel spent.
Why let your shoulders bend underneath this burden when my back is sturdy and strong?
Trouble me.

Speak to me, don't mislead me, the calm I feel means a storm is swelling;
there's no telling where it starts or how it ends.
Speak to me, why are you building this thick brick wall to defend me when your silence is my greatest fear?
Why let your shoulders bend underneath this burden when my back is sturdy and strong?
Speak to me.

Let me have a look inside these eyes while I'm learning.
Please don't hide them just because of tears.
Let me send you off to sleep with a "There, there, now stop your turning and tossing."
Let me know where the hurt is and how to heal.

Spare me? Don't spare me anything troubling.
Trouble me, disturb me with all your cares and your worries.
Speak to me and let our words build a shelter from the storm.
Lastly, let me know what I can mend.
There's more, honestly, than my sweet friend, you can see.
Trust is what I'm offering if you trouble me.

I work with. 103 year old that told me that she wished I didn't have to leave after I helped her get up & dressed , had 2 cups of tea wit5 her, fed her a brown egg ; and helped her to the tolit. My back was hurting after that. But hearing what she said - when I was leaving - made it all worth it 😘

Such a Beautiful Yet Haunting Voice

  7. Christi Nash

I love her so much before the 90s. She was the ultimate INFJ of the 80s. Like Sesame Street meets Headbangers Ball. I'll never forget her teaching me morals when I was ten. That was her power you know, reaching tweens.

  8. coolchef64

I wanted to marry Natalie the day I saw her. Such a beauty. Still is. -s

  10. Valerieann Rumpf

Great song, pure and simple. 💕👍

  11. Kurt Sumthinorother

Top 5 indie of all time. It's trendy again in late 2010s but it lacks emotion and range, can't touch Natalie or Edie B.

  12. tito suarez

This woman is amazing bravisimoo Bella

  13. Cliff Herren

Natalie Merchant has one of the softest, smoothest voices I've listened to.This song and "Because The Night" are my favorites from them. Also a beautiful lady.

  14. Joseph Nickell

Natalie, with her stunning haunting beauty and phenomenal singing abilities. I feel in love with her in the late 80's!

  37. Red88Rex

I liked Natalie/10000 Maniacs in the mid/late 90s, but seeing this video reminds me of something. It was maybe 1997 or 1998, my parents had just gotten DirecTV, and it had MTV2, which at the time played nothing but videos - it was amazing. They were doing an alphabetical countdown, and I made sure to be around when they got to this band/Natalie, and that was the first time I saw this video on tv.

    César Rabbit

    Thanks for sharing that.

  38. Anton Andras Lindamood White

I'd like to trouble Natalie Merchant to sit on my face

  45. John-Paul Nagel

    Underated Voice

  46. crucialmatt

So glad I came up in a time of good music

  47. James Lambert

What a great era for female recording artists..............Natalie, Alanis, Paula Cole........ Today's singers are no good compared to the afore mentioned.......................Who agrees with me?

  48. James Lambert

Today i was struggling with my mood a bit, mostly because I had a Dr. appt. On the way to the Dr, i {me} turned on the radio and this song came on. Instantly, my mood brightened! Amazing what a great song can do for one's mojo!

  49. Jason Rehak

Love her and the song and video

  50. sergio barragan

  51. Anthony Stark

Touching lyrics; a tempting riff; and Natalie's voice.

  55. Robert W.

One of the best bands ever

  56. Jeremy True

As a man that was a teen when the maniacs were big. I am grateful for natalie's example of what an elegant, strong, beautiful lady is. It always struck me that she was never scantily clad. She didn't feel it necessary to berate, curse or yell. But there was no doubt in my mind she was a strong lady worthy of respect.

  57. CanarianReggie

    Super classy lady

  58. James Endicott

She has the most amazing voice!!

  59. CCRider87

Great song, but not so great a video: the twee nature of it trivializes the profundity of the song's lyrics.

  60. Bella Bella

Miss her music! Only one radio station plays it in my city.

  61. MegaTurkeylips

I love you so much Natalie.

  62. Jaslyn Kingston

  67. Jason W

Did anyone notice she was riding an old woman on a bike. You know she ghostered.

  68. Arundel Mercure

Natalie visits her rich grandmother, to make sure she's in the will. Isn't she virtuous? She wants a medal for her display of niceness. (It's actually a nice song, but Natalie is so annoying, ostentatious displays of how compassionate and woke she is. Someone tell her to sit down and relax.)

  69. Mike Castillo

  70. Brian Nash

  71. Andrés64B

    I'm trying...😢

I was a geriatric nurse for many years. A nurses aide in geriatrics, before that. I dedicate the feelings that this song and video gives me to every resident whom I was graced to have ever had the honor to care for.

    Julia White

That's beautiful 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. I know they appreciate you too 💕

    Adam Hitze

God bless you! You give me hope. Thank you

  75. matthew stetson

Such a very, very sweet song without the unnecessary, syrupy sweetness. 'While your silence is my greatest fear' begets 'Trust is what I'm offering if you Trouble Me.'

  76. Betty Savala

Love you your words cut deep I want to. See you I'm going to try make it crest theatre

  77. chaymon tour

Porqué tienen pocos videos de los 10,000 Maniacs?? solo esos son??

  78. dirkbogarde44

  79. Steve Taylor

Natalie...so fertile, after all these years...[sigh]

  80. Darrick Nunnally

    beautiful song and voice

  81. Gerard Vaughan

From those 80's, I'll be danged this slipped rite past me, or my Radar was out of order. First time Ever I heard this was just now, by some strange fluke, I just had a really hard day swearing and cussing at desperate repair work going wrong, and cat friends wanting ever more lunch breaks, and neighbour's kids wanting amps fixed and phones given credit and yes, more food !! Talk about "had enough" ! wonderful piece, even if the words are slightly incomprehensible to my shattered head.

  82. 519 Forestmonk

This was from a time when the radio still had class
