10000 Maniacs - Tension Makes A Tangle Lyrics

As frail hinges
Pivot on a case's door
Commemorative
Souvenirs from places
Containers change
With each occasion

A cellophane encased
Display of paper
Certificate
To credit years of service
A tool of central enterprises
The early hope
For permanence
The words
The rings
Consistency
The social security
A miracle is high tragedy

Thought mistaken
For a memory
Clear the dust from
Smiles in boxes
Pass a patterned wall
Recall their voices

A local post
Will list your friends
In order of
Disappearance
The lawn scattered

Tins feed birds
A portion baked for
Absent guests
And the mass edition icon
God sent comfort
Your salvation
But who grants absolution
For sins that
Never were committed

Tension makes a tangle
Of each thought
Becomes an inconvenience
Sound as it never penetrates
As servile edges
Break and
Feint

Thought mistaken
For a memory
A dress length
Assassination
A fractured family tie
Another christening

Christening
Christening
Christening

10000 Maniacs Tension Makes A Tangle Comments
  1. R.... K....

A beautiful, moving song about the passage of time and memories

  2. T.... M....

This has always been my favourite 10,000 Maniacs song. A song for family.

  3. J.... W....

This one is just beautiful to listen to.

  4. t.... ....

In my 10KM playlist with the 1st two indie versions.

  5. M.... B....

947 views. How sad. What this current generation has missed out on. :-(

    M.... B....

    Natalie doesn't twerk.

  6. J.... A....

This is not a patch on the Human Conflict Number Five recording of the same song. Slower, duller, and worse vocal delivery. All the edges already getting knocked off.

    J.... A....

@Jack Anderton Worse vocal delivery? An impossibility for Natalie.

    J.... A....

Hey Jack (Kerouac)! Sorry, had to do it. You certainly are entitled to your opinion, though I suspect the band would not agree; nor would most of their "stalkers".

    J.... A....

Disagree completely. This is a gorgeous version, much improved from the rougher human conflict version, which is nevertheless great in its own way.

The maniacs are still playing. Mary Ramsey sings and John Lombardo is back in the band.
