10000 Maniacs - Scorpio Rising Lyrics

Power
Dizzy with it stumble
Detail
A chance for us to quarrel
Anger
My head is shaken violent

If I could calm or restrain you
For the sake of pity
Save the pistol
Save the cynics tongue
Save the cool white stare
And treat me to an honest face sometime

Amaze me now

Trust is
The greatest human error
Empty
Used me as a vessel
Ruthless
You're not known for subtlety

If I could calm or restrain you
For the sake of pity
Save the pistol
Save the cynic's tongue
Save the cool white stare
And treat me to an honest face sometime

Amaze me now

Artful
Well there's quite a skill to torture
Half smile
Was it all you could deliver
Token
So hard to be pleasant

If you could calm or restrain it
For the sake of pity
Save the pistol
Save the cynic's tongue
Save the cool white stare
And treat me to an honest face sometime

Amaze me now

  3. s.... ....

    s.... ....

    Yes, she is!

  4. d.... c....

    What an amazing performance

  5. a.... ....

    l love that dress

  6. J.... L....

    John Lombardo is so cool.

  7. C.... K....

absolutely fell in love with this one!!! BEAUTIFUL rock!!! it didn't help my ex was a Scorpio rising.

  8. K.... B....

Unfortunately, there are very few Maniacs recordings, that capture their essence, like this does. Natalie was a 'tour de force' live.

  9. J.... S....

It was the whole band that made them great. When it was done it was done. Such an awesome body of work though.

  10. G.... S....

    Wow! Tight band.

  11. J.... P....

    amaze me now!

  12. S.... R....

I just knew of this band by what was played on the radio back in the day. For the past couple of weeks I have been playing most of their concert footage and a lot of Natalies solo stuff. Just learning what this band was all about. This was a special moment in time for this band. IMO, Merchants distinct vocal sound was the cornerstone and the great musicians finished the foundation of a great sound. Her dancing and twirling is really fun
to see. So its off to the used CD store to see what I can add to my collection.

  13. P.... B....

Tight band! Their guitarist is fab though.

    P.... B....

    He was indeed. RIP

This track was my first initial introduction to the Maniacs, and The Wishing Chair album still remains my favorite of their entire discography. There was simply a rawness and intensity in their early recordings and performances that hasn't been duplicated since. Even when I first caught them live in '88 when they toured to promote the In My Tribe album, that energy remained intact. Surely their popularity and the focus on Natalie in the coming years was expected. But credit must be given to Robert Buck's unique and distinct guitar playing and John Lombardo's songwriting and performnce that he contributed solely on the Wishing album.

    M.... A....

John also made large contributions to their first EP and LP (Wishing Chair is their second...)

    M.... A....

interesting...first heard them on the radio, Planned Obsolescence. I then got the Secrets of the I Ching. They're later work was ok, but it lacked the freshness/edge these other songs had. Not a fan of the new singer; let's face it: NM is the essence of the group.

  15. s.... ....

she definitely amazed me! awesome song and band!

  16. L.... S....

    Natalie is the best

  17. B.... R....

Thank you for sharing!!! 🙏🏼 Great video - super quality - love this this song (and album!) 🌞🌞🌞

  18. b.... ....

one sick individual the video producer was to have any footage that wasn't of her

  19. j.... ....

My favorite era of the band, my favorite album of theirs. They sounded like no one else.

    j.... ....

    +jt20042 my favorite too

    j.... ....

I always liked what John brought to the band. While the Maniacs still made some great music after he left, they were never the same without him. To me everything up to The Wishing Chair was brilliant and unique. Not as popular as In My Tribe was, but The Wishing Chair is the Maniacs masterpiece!

  20. t.... ....

One of my favorite early tunes when they were just warming up.

  21. R.... C....

many years ago, before the Spice Girls....Natalie Merchant invented Girl Power.

    R.... C....

Helen Reddy and Joni Mitchell would disagree, but oh well

    R.... C....

DON'T compare Nat Merchant to The Spice Slags ! I was a teenager in the late 90s and I'm telling yer, British society - maybe even global society - got fucked over forever after they came along; underage girls dressed like sluts, danced/ behaved provocatively + generally drew undesirable attention to themselves from boys, while their older counterparts became 'ladette' alcoholics ! ! Female empowerment ? On the contrary, young girls were just manipulated into (often underage) lurid sexuality back then ! And all this delusion of freedom ! HOW STUPID AND IMPRESSIONABLE ARE THESE FUCKING PEOPLE ?!?!

    R.... C....

@Serene Chaos UK People are stupid.

    R.... C....

@zaftra I forgot I wrote that ! Thanks for reminding me of my resentment of the world post-1994 !

  22. j.... ....

A lot of their early stuff just plain rocked. And to the Merchant bashers; open your eyes and ears. She is the best!

    j.... ....

clinroatan; Only just seen your smart-arsed reply from 8 months ago. Of course, there was no sampling method; that is why I said "it seems to me". Merely a perception from observations of various critical comments on YouTube and music journals.

    j.... ....

Save your cool white stare. Best line in a rock song.

    j.... ....

deception2010able: She is often called a "liberal". As I see it, she often stands up for the underdog and speaks out on environmental protection. Songs such as 'Motherland' and 'Poison In The Well' have a strong environmental message.

    j.... ....

Anyone who is a “Merchant Basher” is a fool.

    j.... ....

Portcullis I'm a rightie and love her especially here. Sandy Denny influenced her and I think was even better. And I know you know lady Sandy.

  23. J.... R....

WoW they rocked like no other.  I just saw them 10kM play other night and the band is still tight as hell and had the place hoppin.

  24. b.... ....

This is my favorite time for this band.

  25. F.... ....

    Still sounds amazing.

    Desert island music.

  26. a.... ....

jerome's toupe is rocking those drums. i remember when natalie hosted mtv's 120 minutes and remarked how watching this video again made her cringe, ha! back in high school i was lucky enough to see their last show ever with natalie at the greek theater in LA.

  27. a.... ....

    definitely

  28. g.... ....

I dont deny that Natalie Merchant is an incredible artist, but Robert Buck was as integral to the 10000 maniacs as she was...

    g.... ....

Pains me to say it, but the band nowadays, are just going through the motions. Without Rob & Natalie, imposters imo.

    g.... ....

    No doubt bro.

  29. W.... T....

Fell apart? That's a stretch. They've continued touring and putting out records since she left. I mean they have a new one out in three weeks for crying out loud.

  30. t.... ....

    Yeah!!!

  31. M.... C....

A social climbing phony? Are you on crack? Natalie Merchant is (was) 10,000 Maniacs. They are (were) nothing without her; proven by the fact that when she left the band they fell apart.

  32. D.... S....

to which she has ALWAYS acknowledged.

  33. J.... J....

    Que buena canción!!!

  34. a.... n....

Love the song, but Ms. Merchant is nothing but a social climbing phony. I saw some of their earliest shows. John Lombardo was always the heart and soul of this band.

    a.... n....

    Clueless arsehole.

    a.... n....

Abraham Nixon is that your real name? Ha! Lol

    a.... n....

I wish she would climb me.

    a.... n....

Although I was a fan of 10km in the late 80's I thought NM seemed kind of pretentious and hauty in her interviews and I stopped being a fan of hers.but watching these early performances, she's really amazing! As far as whatever her political views;were all manipulated by propaganda we're fed by the media. I used to b a liberal because I believed everything I saw on the news, news shows and newspapers and assumed they were all unbiased and true.

  35. k.... ....

The early flip side to the Maniacs.
Natalie's exuberant vocals turn this good song into a belter...

  36. s.... ....

my favorite song by them too!

  37. d.... ....

    Thank you.
Although a soul of Japan is lost and it is ruined now, A soul of Japan is revitalized.

    d.... ....

Hey, Thanks for the upload! Japan is great, yes!

  38. M.... D....

my fave of their songs :)

  39. s.... ....

Love this song!! She's right TRUST is the greatest human error!!
