I think every couple entering matrimony should listen to this song first. Myself am divorced. Presently three sets of friends are in the process of dissolving their marriages. So much, pain anger and hurt. This song captures it all.

Still a beautiful song. I bought the album when it came out, but I didn't hear this song for more then 15 years. I recently heared it again and I am still blown away by this powerful song. So beautiful!
I also bought the album back in 1992, and this was one of my favourite songs on a great album full of beautiful songs, with that gorgeous and powerful voice. In fact, in recent years this album has grown on me even more, and now I fully appreciate the song writing genius of songs such as this one, 'Noah's Dove', 'Eden', 'How You've Grown' and 'Tolerance'.

Uh huh, especially if you've had a devastating breakup. Natalie's lyrics have always been profound, thought provoking, beautiful, and sometimes excruciating. Love her music.
I've always felt that the lyrics to this song was very moving. A song about good intentions which ultimately backfire because the person (or people) aren't honest with their true feelings.

One of my all time favorites ...I wore out this cd purchasing up to three of the same released in the 1990's. She and Michael Stipe -Rem were the hottest bands taking the world by storm. I loved all 10,000 Maniacs. Her voice is awesome.
The first version I heard of this song was from the Unplugged album, which made me think, "oh yeah, that's a sad song, whatever". Then I bought Our Time in Eden and heard this version. That drum crack at 1:02 just about split me in half; almost like Natalie had slapped my face and demanded that I listen to what she had to say next. This song just freezes my blood every time I hear it.
Jerry Augustyniak is a fantastic drummer! I love watching him when I see the Maniacs live.
Thanks for uploading this amazing song. I LOVE how it goes from slow to intense, slow to intense, repeatedly. One of their best songs, and that is saying a lot as far as I'm concerned.
